What is a Script?
In the world of web design and programming, script describes a small non-compiled program written for a scripting language or command interpreter. A scripting language, used by developers and web designers, is a programming language that supports scripts, programs written for a special run-time environment that can interpret (rather than compile) and automate the execution of tasks that could alternatively be executed one-by-one by a human operator
A scripting language is kind of like a pre-made coding language used to perform specific tasks on a website, create a specific appearance or perform multiple functions automatically such as sending out predefined emails. Scripts can be written in a number of server-side languages such as ASP, Java, Javascript, Perl, PHP, Python or Ruby.
Scripting Errors
With such a wide variety of scripting languages available, coinciding with various personalized extensions and add-ons, troubleshooting issues with most scripts can be difficult if the person doing the troubleshooting doesn't have specific familiarity with the design and/or use of the script. Scripting errors related to custom coding that cannot correctly parse on the server can have numerous end results and errors including:
- Error messages
- 500 Internal Server Error messages
- Numerous PHP processes being spawned
- High CPU usage (this can result in a Terms of Service violation and possible suspension of your site until the script is fixed)
- Damage to your site content and/or databases
Scope of Support
Our support personnel do not provide website design or development services, therefore we may not be able to resolve certain issues related to custom coding and scripting errors. In any case, we will gladly take a look and offer as much help as possible.
While we can assist with installation and troubleshooting of certain scripts found in cPanel such as WordPress, Joomla and Magento, we may be unable to assist with custom configuration or design issues. WordPress and Joomla themes and plugins are also considered third-party scripts as they contain various types of PHP coding which may be incompatible with our version of WordPress or our server environment.
